Heard of the Shopkick App?
How would you like to earn gift cards to some of your favorite places like Target, Starbucks, Best Buy, Macy’s, Crate&Barrel, American Eagle and more? All you have to do is turn on your phone and walk inside!
Shopkick is a free location-based reward app available for the iPhone and Android. Users can earn “kicks” (rewards) when you check-in at participating businesses. You can also earn kicks for scanning barcodes on specific products in those participating stores.
Here’s how it works:
All you do is open the Shopkick app on your phone and it will list nearby retailers offering kicks for walking in, where to earn a few kicks for checking in, and which products are available to scan for kicks. You could earn a couple hundred kicks in just one day!
Stores may also send Shopkick users exclusive store incentives and discounts for extra savings.
Currently some of the major stores offering rewards to users who visit include: Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, Macy’s, American Eagle, Sports Authority, Target, and Wet Seal in more than a dozen major markets.
What you can earn?
Shopkick has some pretty good rewards! The kicks can be redeemed for items such as iTunes gift cards, restaurant vouchers, retail gift cards, Facebook Credits, movie tickets, or products including HD TVs.
You can redeem your kicks for smaller gift cards, like a $2 Target gift card for 500 kicks. Or, you can wait to claim your prize for more kicks, like a free Coach handbag for 75,000 kicks!
A free Starbucks drink will cost you around 1250 kicks!
Shopkick while you Grocery Shop
Shopkick partners with food brands such as Kraft Food and Procter&Gamble. Just scan the barcode of the specific products listed on Shopkick and you can earn rewards or other perks like coupons or recipes.
One of the grocery chains I shop at isn’t on Shopkick yet, but the brand is growing and is continuing to add retailers.

My Shopkick App Review:
Here’s is my Shopkick app review: I’ve used Shopkick for almost three months and I have almost 1,000 kicks. I have friends who are using it more consistently than me and have already received gift cards as their rewards. I’m usually with my twin babies and don’t have a lot of extra time to scout out the Shopkick listed items to scan. When I’m out alone, I have limited time to run my errands, let alone go on a Shopkick scavenger hunt.
However, I love the walk-in kicks I earn at stores like Target, Best Buy, etc. I unlock them by browsing through the store lookbooks on the app. I love walking into the store at hearing my phone go off and seeing my kicks add up! One time I got over 700 kicks for walking into Target!
A local Macy’s furniture store had kicks for walking into the store. I walked in and stood in the lobby staring at my phone waiting for it to go off to claim my kicks, but it never did. The furniture salesman stood in front of me and was chomping at the bit to sell me some furniture. It was awkward trying to dodge him and trying not to make eye contact. I ended up leaving because the kicks never showed up on my phone. Oh well, a guess there was a little bit of a glitch. By that time, I was tired and ready to go home. The day wasn’t all lost, I was glad I was able to get some big kicks at Target!
According to the Shopkick Facebook page, there are a few technical glitches with walk-ins and scans of products registering on the app. Shopkick is growing fast and may have a few growing pains, but overall it’s a great app to use to earn free gift cards!
It looks like the best way to earn kicks is to have others sign up under your account. When you refer a friend to Shopkick through the app, they get a referral link sent to them. When they sign up with that link and start shopkicking, you earn 50% of the kicks they earn in the first two weeks, up to 2500 kicks per friend referral. I slacked the first few weeks and was a weak referral.
It may take me a little bit longer than shoppers who don’t have two little ones in tow, but I’ll still enjoy my gift cards! I’m saving up for a Target gift card! If you would like to sign up for the Shopkick app and start earning towards gift cards and more, click on this link. (yes, it’s my referral link). Shop and spread the word!
